Quickstrike vs. Conventional Spinnerbaits

3/16-oz Green Sunfish QuickstrikeBy SWL College Prostaff Stephen Pineau

Conventional safety-pin spinnerbaits have been around for years;
however, revolutionary new spinnerbaits by Secret Weapon Lures have
redefined the term versatility when it comes to this tried-and-true bass catcher.

The Secret Weapon Quickstrike is not just far superior to leading
conventional spinnerbaits; Secret Weapon has reinvented the spinnerbait
altogether.

In the bass fishing world, anglers are faced with countless
situations and scenarios. Each calls for different lures and
techniques. However, not every angler has a bottomless wallet or
sponsors that will furnish all of his tackle. The average angler has
the challenge of acquiring enough tackle to cover all situations
without going broke. Secret Weapon Lures has come up with a solution to
this problem: lure kits containing all the components required to
assemble spinnerbaits.

Secret Weapon has several kits ranging in price, quantity, weight
and configuration containing a variety of head colors, skirts and
blades in different finishes and sizes. With these, not only can an
angler assemble a spinnerbait on the spot specifically tailored for the
given situation, but he can create literally hundreds or even thousands
of different spinnerbait combinations with only a small number of
components. What does this mean? Options. Options an angler
would otherwise have only if he spent every spare dime on spinnerbaits
and towed around a second boat to carry all his tackle boxes.

The angler who buys a two- to seven-dollar conventional Strike KingTM, TerminatorTM or BooyahTM
spinnerbait, which allow for only one combination per bait, has a lure
that will cover one or two fishing situations. For his money he gets a
single spinnerbait - one size, color, weight, skirt pattern and one or
two blades that are fixed in place.
One single Secret Weapon
spinnerbait offers three configurations. Two spinnerbaits create
sixteen options. Four spinnerbaits, each with different blades, can be
reconfigured in at least 128 ways.

Secret Weapon provides you with options for the money you spend; most companies just give options on how to spend your money.

Most companies sell innovative baits to anglers. Secret Weapon sells
the tools that unleash anglers’ creativity, making them the true
innovators.
Let’s consider a few elements of the Secret Weapon design.

The frame is an aspect that sets one spinnerbait apart from the
rest. It is the foundation of the spinnerbait body, the component to
which all others are subsequently added. Secret Weapon Lures has taken
this into account and went to great lengths to ensure that the
Quickstrike frame is superior to that of its competitors. Secret Weapon
Lures’ Quickstrike frame is constructed of heavy-gauge 0.040-inch
stainless steel for maximum durability and vibration-transfer up the
line. Most other spinnerbaits use 0.031-inch wire, which reduces the
durability of the lure and inhibits the angler’s ability to feel the
bait’s vibration during retrieves.

A second design feature of the Quickstrikes’ frame is that the frame
emerges from the head at no more than a 15-degree angle relative to the
hook shank. The lure’s super-sharp Mustad hook is aimed directly at the
line tie — the notch in the frame where the line is secured. This
allows the angler to transfer the maximum amount of force to hook
penetration during the hook-set. The lower line angle provides a clear
advantage. If you do everything right, get a ton of hits, but don’t
land a single fish because of poor hook-sets, then all your efforts are
futile.

By comparison, the wire frame design of conventional spinnerbaits is
less effective. The majority of spinnerbait manufacturers build their
lures with the R-bend significantly higher than the hook point. Because
of this, the lure tends to rotate forward on the hook-set. The hook
point then points downward - not directly up the line - which results
in poor hook-ups and lost fish.

The feature that gives the Secret Weapon Lures Quickstrike its
greatest advantage over conventional spinnerbaits is its unique blade
configuration. Their "in-line" design allows for increased vibration,
less torque-induced lure "roll-over" and maximum blade rotation at even
the slowest speeds.
At first glance, even a novice angler will
notice the difference in blade arrangement. The blades of a Secret
Weapon Lures Quickstrike, when assembled with two or more blade, appear
to be “daisy-chained” one behind the other.

What does all this mean? This bait puts out more vibration to be
picked up and homed in on by a bass. The blades rotate more freely so
that you don’t need to retrieve it quickly through the water just to
get the blades to turn. In addition, the design of the Quick-Clip blade
attachments positions the blades right above the hook; thereby
increasing the chances of a solid hook-up when bass strike at the
blades instead of the head and skirt, a problem not all that uncommon
with spinnerbait fishing.

Conventional spinnerbaits do not have these advantages. Usually they
have one blade mounted by clevis on the frame arm and another attached
to the frame by a swivel. This design proved very effective for fifty
years. It still is on lightly pressured waters. But where bass see a
hundred spinnerbaits in a day, they not prone to strike at something
that has become familiar.

Fishing pressure aside, conventional spinnerbaits are simply
inferior when it comes to mechanical advantage. They produce less
fish-attracting vibration and flash. Their long, swept-back upper arm,
required to position the main blade in the vicinity of the hook, helps
the bait to be relatively snag-resistant, but it also blocks the hook.
If a bass hits the blade, the entire bait pivots to one side. A
Quickstrike’s free-floating, in-line blade attachments, on the other
hand, fold out of the way on a strike and leave the hook exposed and
correctly positioned for the hook set.

When looking at both the Quickstrike and conventional spinnerbaits,
it is evident how they differ physically. The Quickstrike’s mechanical
features deliver increased efficiency. And the way in which the
Quickstrike is sold allows for greater versatility. The Secret Weapon
Lures Quickstrike is superior to even the leading conventional
spinnerbaits. It delivers better value, better performance, and better
results in any situation.
